TPE and TPR Material: A Look from a TPE-TPR Manufacturer

TpR-TpE glue Manufacturers discuss TPE and TPR

  1. TPR is thermoplastic rubber. TpR-TpE glue manufacturers believe that, compared to the amorphous cross-linking characteristics of rubber, this material can be molded at both high and room temperatures. Due to its properties, it is called thermoplastic rubber, abbreviated as TPR.

  2. SBS elastomers have unsaturated double bonds in their molecular chains, resulting in insufficient aging resistance, weather resistance, and temperature resistance. Through continuous technological innovation, SEBS elastomers have been developed. In fact, SEBS converts the unsaturated double bonds of SBS into single-bond saturated molecular structures through hydrogenation, improving the material's aging resistance, weather resistance, tear resistance, and high-temperature resistance. SEBS can also be processed through injection molding, extrusion molding, blow molding, and saliva molding. Currently, TpR-TpE glue manufacturers believe that in China's SEBS and SBS blending industry, composite elastomers modified with an SBS matrix are called TPR, while those modified with an SEBS matrix are called TPE. However, TpR-TpE glue manufacturers believe that the names differ in some foreign countries and other regions. SEBS and SBS are habitually called TPR. In addition, SEBS, SBS, and their blended elastomers are called TPES and TPE-S in Europe and America.

  3. TPE is a thermoplastic elastomer. Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) is literally different from thermoplastic rubber (TPR) and has a wider material range than thermoplastic rubber.

  4. TpR-TpE glue manufacturers say that, in addition to elastomers modified by SEBS blending, there is a broader concept, in addition to ordinary elastomers modified by SEBS blending, referring to all thermoplastic elastomers, including TPES, such as polyurethane thermoplastic elastomer TPU, polyamide elastomer TPAE, polyester thermoplastic elastomer TPEE, polyolefin elastomer TPO, and special dynamic vulcanized elastomer TPV. In fact, TpR-TpE glue manufacturers believe that it is important to choose the appropriate elastomer material according to application requirements.

  5. TPE and TPR can be considered one material, only differing in name. Generally speaking, some users in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Zhejiang have the habit of using TPR. Some industry insiders have indicated that TPE is more advanced than TPR, and TPR is generally suitable for traditional industries such as toys, shoes, and daily necessities. Electronic products, wired communications, and the medical industry mostly use the name TPE. According to production regulations, TPE and TPR are styrene thermoplastic elastomer-modified elastomer materials, with SEBS matrix-modified TPE and SBS matrix-modified TPR.
